(Web Desk) – Internet users across Pakistan may face slow speeds and possible service disruptions on January 15.
According to NayaTel, an internet service provider, the maintenance work will begin around 2pm and may take up to eight hours, during which internet performance nationwide could be affected.
In an email sent to its customers, NayaTel stated that the maintenance is being carried out on an international submarine cable and is unavoidable. Although the company did not disclose the exact location or details of the fault, users may experience reduced internet speeds.
Submarine cables are crucial for Pakistan’s international data traffic, and any disruption can affect browsing, streaming, remote work, and other digital services.
Pakistan relies on a limited number of submarine cables for global internet connectivity. While maintenance work is essential, its impact on users can be significant. During such repairs, data is usually rerouted through alternative pathways, which can result in slower internet speeds.
NayaTel and other service providers have advised users to plan their important online activities in advance to avoid inconvenience during the maintenance period.
It is worth recalling that earlier this month, Pakistan witnessed a major internet disruption. On January 1, 2026, users across the country reported severe slowdowns and outages, which lasted for more than two days due to a fault at an upstream internet provider.
