India may have lifted the Asia Cup 2025 trophy with a five-wicket win over Pakistan in Dubai, but the aftermath of the match has raised serious concerns about sportsmanship and diplomatic maturity. While the final was a thrilling contest, India’s behavior both on and off the field has drawn criticism for lacking grace and respect.
The match itself was a spectacle. Pakistan posted 146 runs, with Sahibzada Farhan scoring a solid 57 and Fakhar Zaman contributing 46. However, the batting lineup collapsed dramatically, losing eight wickets for just 33 runs. India’s Kuldeep Yadav led the bowling attack with four wickets, supported by Bumrah, Varun, and Axar Patel with two each. In response, India chased down the target in the final over, with Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 69 anchoring the innings.
Yet, despite the competitive spirit on the pitch, India’s conduct off the pitch was troubling. The refusal to shake hands after the toss, the lack of acknowledgment for Pakistan’s performance, and the post-match media tone reflected a disregard for the values of sportsmanship. Cricket is not just about winning—it’s about mutual respect, camaraderie, and the ability to rise above rivalry.
Indian media and social platforms amplified the victory with taunts and political undertones, overshadowing the spirit of the game. This behavior not only undermines the dignity of the sport but also risks inflaming tensions between two nations whose cricketing ties are already fragile.
Pakistan’s team, despite the loss, showed resilience and professionalism. Their early dominance and disciplined bowling kept the match competitive till the very end. What they lacked in victory, they upheld in character.
India must decide whether it wants to be remembered as a champion of cricket or merely a collector of trophies. True greatness lies not just in winning, but in how one wins—and how one treats the opponent in defeat.
Cricket should unite, not divide. If India continues down a path of arrogance and antagonism, it may win matches, but lose the respect that makes champions truly legendary.
