(Web Desk) – An Indian YouTuber allegedly set his home studio on fire after months of struggling to attract followers, local media reported. The 27-year-old content creator, identified as Vidhayak Prajapati, sparked the blaze inside his residence in Garhwa district on Saturday night.
Authorities and neighbours acted swiftly to rescue Prajapati’s family from the smoke-filled house. The fire destroyed studio equipment valued at over one million Indian rupees, according to reports.
Prajapati had operated a film editing and digital media studio from his home. Neighbours said he had sold ancestral land to build a modern setup, hoping to achieve YouTube stardom. However, after months without significant online traction, he reportedly suffered severe depression.
Residents described Prajapati as withdrawn in the days leading up to the incident. At around 10 p.m. on Saturday, he reportedly locked himself in the studio and set it ablaze. When smoke began to engulf the home, his family raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to contact the police.
Officers arrived promptly, breaching a side wall to enter the residence and safely evacuate the family. Prajapati allegedly escaped by jumping over a rear wall after igniting the studio. His relatives located him the following morning, and he is now receiving medical treatment for mental health issues.
This incident has sparked discussions online about the pressures of social media success and the mental health challenges faced by content creators. Psychologists emphasize the importance of mental health support for individuals pursuing careers in digital entertainment, especially when faced with rejection or lack of engagement.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire, while neighbours and friends express concern for the young creator’s well-being.
