Imran Khan’s Brother-in-Law Moves LHC Seeking Access to Detained Sisters
LAHORE, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking family and legal access to the detained sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan.
The petition was filed by Ahad Khan, husband of Dr Uzma Khan, amid an ongoing legal dispute over the detention of the former prime minister’s sisters.
The petitioner has maintained that Dr Uzma Khan and her two sisters are currently detained and that neither their family members nor lawyers are being permitted to meet them.
He has also alleged that authorities are preventing the family from providing the three women with their routine medicines and other essential items.
The petition states that requests seeking permission to meet the detained women have already been submitted to the relevant authorities but have not resulted in access.
Ahad Khan has challenged the restrictions and asked the Lahore High Court to direct the authorities to allow lawyers and family members to meet Dr Uzma and her sisters.
He has also questioned the continued detention of the women, describing them as elderly homemakers and arguing that keeping them under stringent conditions is unlawful.
The petition follows earlier legal proceedings concerning the detention of Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi.
On September 24, the Lahore High Court declined a request to immediately suspend their detention notifications.
The court instead issued notices to the relevant parties and sought their responses.
During those proceedings, lawyers representing the women challenged the legal basis of the detention orders and sought their suspension.
The latest petition focuses specifically on access to the detained women rather than establishing the legality or illegality of their detention as a settled matter.
Ahad Khan has asked the court to intervene after a trial court also rejected an application concerning access to the three sisters.
The allegations that family members and lawyers have been denied access, medicines and other essential items are claims contained in the petition and have not yet been established by a final judicial determination.
The Lahore High Court is expected to consider the petition and the response of the relevant authorities before determining whether directions regarding family and legal access should be issued.
The case comes amid heightened political tensions surrounding PTI and continuing court proceedings involving the party’s leadership and members of Imran Khan’s family.
