What Imran Khan gets was under discussion for months: PM’s Aide

Date:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s aide says the decision concerning Imran Khan’s hospital transfer followed months of discussion and was based on legal and medical considerations.

WEB DESK: A senior aide to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the arrangements concerning Imran Khan’s medical treatment and hospital transfer had been under discussion for months, describing the latest development as a decision based on merit.

The remarks came after the Supreme Court directed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder be transferred from Adiala Jail to a hospital for medical assessment and treatment.

Decision followed months of discussion

According to the report, the prime minister’s aide said the matter involving Imran Khan had been discussed for an extended period before the court issued its direction.

The statement comes amid continued debate over Khan’s health, access to medical care and meetings with family members while he remains incarcerated.

The Supreme Court has also sought detailed medical records and information concerning his treatment.

Supreme Court orders hospital transfer

The court directed that Imran Khan be moved to a hospital under strict security arrangements and that a medical board be constituted to assess his condition.

The court also ordered that arrangements be made to allow members of his family to meet him, while stressing that his medical treatment should not become a matter of political controversy.

The development followed a hearing concerning requests for medical treatment and meetings with Khan.

Government rejects political interpretation

The prime minister’s aide’s comments appear aimed at rejecting suggestions that the court’s decision or the government’s position was politically motivated.

The official maintained that the matter had been under consideration for months and that the decision should be viewed in the context of legal and medical requirements.

The issue remains politically sensitive, given Khan’s status as one of Pakistan’s most prominent opposition figures and the continuing legal cases against him.

Medical care remains focus of dispute

The Supreme Court has sought information about Khan’s medical history and treatment, while lawyers representing him have called for comprehensive medical examinations.

The court has also directed authorities to provide relevant records and ensure that medical arrangements are made without compromising security.

The latest developments are expected to keep attention focused on Khan’s health and the conditions surrounding his detention as the case proceeds.
