KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has retired after completing his service tenure, while Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has been assigned the additional charge of IG Sindh.
Ghulam Nabi Memon stepped down upon reaching the age of retirement, but a new IG could not be appointed before his departure. The Sindh government issued a notification handing over the additional charge to Additional IG Javed Alam Odho, who has now assumed responsibilities as Acting IG Sindh.
A formal change-of-command ceremony was held at the Central Police Office Karachi, where Ghulam Nabi Memon handed over his duties and the command stick to Javed Alam Odho.
Born on January 1, 1966 in Badin, Ghulam Nabi Memon joined the police service on October 19, 1991. He was promoted from Grade 17 to Grade 18 in 1997 and served in various key positions including SP Ghotki, SP Khairpur, SSP Malir, SSP Larkana, DPO Larkana, ADIG Establishment Karachi, Additional Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh, Director Anti-Corruption, and ADIG Operations CCP Karachi.
He was promoted to Grade 19 in March 2006, serving as DPO Ghotki, and also worked twice with the Intelligence Bureau (IB). In July 2010, he was promoted to Grade 20, later serving as DIG South and DIG Headquarters at CPO. On February 22, 2018, he was elevated to Additional IG in Grade 22, holding positions as Karachi Police Chief twice and Additional IG Special Branch.
Ghulam Nabi Memon served as IG Sindh on two occasions: first from June 3, 2022 to August 19, 2023, and again from March 25, 2024 to December 31, 2025.
