Owner Fawad Sarwar discusses team strategy, coaching, and potential leadership choices
Hyderabad, Pakistan | Web Desk – The newly launched Hyderabad PSL franchise has appointed Jason Gillespie as head coach, with Craig White and Grant Bradburn as assistant coaches. Team owner Fawad Sarwar emphasized that foreign coaching appointments will provide significant advantages to players while the team builds from scratch, starting with zero retention.
Sarwar hinted at possible inclusion of Babar Azam, calling him his “favorite cricketer,” but final decisions will depend on other teams’ retentions and ongoing negotiations. On leadership, he said the captain will be chosen based on merit and leadership qualities, rather than seniority or star status.
The Hyderabad franchise also revealed plans for its team name and logo, awaiting the right launch opportunity. Sarwar assured fans that the team will focus on player well-being, offering full support for health, fitness, and mental preparation, drawing from operations in the US leagues. He highlighted that players from Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, and South Africa could be included, provided they meet team standards.
Fawad Sarwar also emphasized the importance of high salary caps, advanced training facilities, and modern technology to maximize team performance. The owner confirmed ongoing upgrades to Niaz Stadium and US venues, aiming for international-standard facilities with floodlights and broadcasting technology.
