Budapest, Hungary – Web Desk: Hungary’s newly elected Prime Minister Péter Magyar has said his government will arrest any individual, including global leaders, who is subject to an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
Speaking to journalists, Magyar was asked whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be detained if he visited Hungary. In response, he said the policy would apply universally to anyone facing ICC warrants, without exception.
Magyar also announced that his government would halt the process of withdrawing from the ICC, a move initiated by former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. He suggested that the earlier withdrawal effort was aimed at shielding Netanyahu from potential arrest over allegations of war crimes in Gaza.
The statement signals a shift in Hungary’s stance on international justice and legal obligations under the ICC framework, potentially impacting its diplomatic relations within the European Union and beyond.
