Historic EU Parliament Meeting Condemns Taliban Regime in Afghanistan

Date:

Brussels, Belgium – Web Desk: Afghan political and military opponents of the Taliban convened a historic two-day session at the European Parliament, strongly condemning the extremist policies of the Afghan regime.

Former Afghan MP Fawzia Koofi addressed the Parliament, stating that the Taliban have ignored commitments made during the Doha negotiations, turning Afghanistan into a safe haven for violent extremist groups. She highlighted that the regime has systematically excluded women from political, social, and economic life, institutionalizing gender discrimination, and left no space for dissenters, safeguarding only loyal supporters.

Renowned researcher and Afghan public policy expert Zalmay Nasheet warned that Afghanistan’s crisis is no longer solely a humanitarian issue—it now poses a serious threat to European security and stability. Continued Taliban rule is strengthening extremist networks and escalating regional conflicts, he said.

Former Afghan Commissioner for Administrative Reforms, Aliya Yilmaz, stressed that protecting Afghan women’s rights is not just a moral duty but a strategic necessity for regional peace and long-term stability.

Experts further noted that Taliban policies have pushed Afghanistan into global isolation, with ordinary citizens bearing the brunt. The regime’s failures have fueled terrorism, narcotics economies, and social instability, leaving the country a fragile and failing state.
