Tanveer Pasta vows to restore plaza, ensure dignified support for victims’ families.
Karachi: Tanveer Pasta, President of Gul Plaza, addressed concerns regarding the tragic fire that engulfed the building on the night of January 17, emphasizing that the plaza’s 16 entry and exit points, including emergency ramps at the rear, allowed many people to evacuate safely.
Speaking to the media, Pasta clarified that no one has ever sought handouts and pledged that even the smallest shopkeepers will receive support with dignity. He confirmed that the Sindh government has fulfilled its promises, and lists of affected families are being prepared.
Pasta also appealed to the federal government to assist, stating that while no financial aid can bring back lives lost, it can provide meaningful support to victims’ families. He assured that Gul Plaza will be rebuilt very soon.
The devastating fire burned for 36 hours, destroying approximately 40% of the plaza, claiming 27 lives and leaving over 80 individuals missing. Pasta’s statement highlights the importance of emergency exits, dignified support for disaster victims, and the commitment to rebuild one of Karachi’s key commercial hubs.
