Federal government rules out power tariff hike, urges Nepra to announce decision within current billing cycle.
The federal government has ruled out any increase in the average base electricity tariff, offering relief to consumers nationwide. The Power Division informed the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) that subsidies of Rs629 billion have been adjusted to maintain current rates.
During hearings, industrial representatives requested lower electricity costs, citing rates in China (5–7 cents) versus Pakistan’s 13 cents per unit, urging a reduction to 9 cents to support industry growth. Nepra has assured a prompt decision within the billing cycle following a thorough review of stakeholder input and data.
This decision ensures energy affordability for households and highlights the government’s commitment to balancing subsidies and industrial competitiveness.
