Government signals not to alter NFC Award in 27th Amendment after PPP objection

Date:

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The government has indicated that it will not alter the NFC Award in the 27th Constitutional Amendment following objections raised by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

According to government sources, the Ministry of Law has prepared the initial draft of the 27th Amendment. The draft was compiled by a team comprising Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel, and the Law Secretary.

Sources revealed that consensus has been reached on most of the amendment’s points, while consultation continues on one or two remaining issues. The government has assured the PPP that the NFC Award will remain untouched in the proposed 27th Amendment.

Officials stated that the government is awaiting the PPP’s formal response before finalizing the draft. Once the PPP gives the green light, the 27th Constitutional Amendment will be finalized.

Sources added that the federal cabinet will approve the draft before it is tabled in Parliament. The PPP’s recommendations will also be incorporated into the final version. The upcoming Senate session scheduled for Saturday is part of the preparatory steps.

Government insiders further said that if negotiations with the PPP conclude successfully, the 27th Amendment could be presented in the Senate on Saturday.
