Gold Price in Pakistan Falls Rs800 to Rs465,336 Per Tola as Global Bullion Slips
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Gold prices in Pakistan extended their decline on Tuesday, September 1, with the price of 24-karat gold falling Rs800 per tola to Rs465,336, tracking weakness in the international bullion market.
According to rates issued by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold decreased by Rs686 to Rs398,950.
The latest decline follows Monday’s Rs1,800 fall, when gold closed at Rs466,136 per tola. That means the domestic benchmark has lost Rs2,600 per tola over the latest two sessions.
Latest Gold and Silver Rates
The APGJSA benchmark showed 24-karat gold at Rs465,336 per tola and Rs398,950 per 10 grams on Tuesday. The 10-gram rate for 22-karat gold was quoted at approximately Rs365,717.
Silver also moved lower. The domestic price of silver fell Rs50 to Rs7,129 per tola, while 10 grams declined by Rs43 to Rs6,111.
The move contrasts with Monday, when silver had risen Rs67 to Rs7,179 per tola.
International Gold Also Declines
The domestic correction came as international gold prices remained under pressure.
The APGJSA-linked international benchmark cited in Pakistani market reporting fell $8 to $4,428 per ounce, including a $20 premium.
International spot-market quotations can differ from the benchmark used by Pakistan’s jewellery association because of timing and pricing methodology.
Reuters reported that spot gold was down around 0.4% at $4,430.78 an ounce during Tuesday trading, while US gold futures slipped 0.1% to $4,479.30.
This distinction is important: the APGJSA international reference price and live international spot gold are related but should not be treated as identical quotations.
US Interest Rate Outlook Pressures Gold
The latest weakness in bullion comes as traders reassess the outlook for US monetary policy.
Gold suffered a much sharper international sell-off in the previous session after Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s comments strengthened expectations that interest rates could remain restrictive or rise further to control inflation.
Higher interest rates generally increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold.
Reuters reported Tuesday that investors were also waiting for a series of important US labour-market indicators, including job openings, private payroll figures and nonfarm payrolls, for further clues about the Federal Reserve’s policy direction.
The US dollar and Treasury yields are also closely watched because movements in both can influence international demand for precious metals.
Middle East Tensions Remain in Focus
Geopolitical developments continue to complicate the outlook for bullion.
Gold traditionally attracts safe-haven demand during periods of political or military uncertainty. However, escalating tensions in the Middle East have also pushed energy prices higher, potentially adding to inflation concerns and reinforcing expectations of tighter monetary policy.
That creates competing forces for gold: geopolitical risk can support safe-haven demand, while higher interest-rate expectations can weigh on the metal.
Sharp Correction Follows Recent Rally
Tuesday’s Rs800 fall is relatively modest compared with the much steeper domestic correction recorded over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Pakistani benchmark plunged Rs15,100 per tola to Rs467,936, before declining another Rs1,800 on Monday and Rs800 on Tuesday.
From Saturday’s Rs467,936 level to Tuesday’s Rs465,336 rate, gold has fallen another Rs2,600 per tola.
The larger recent decline followed a strong period for bullion, illustrating the volatility affecting both global and Pakistani precious-metal markets.
Why Pakistan Gold Rates Can Differ Between Websites
Consumers may encounter different “today’s gold rate” figures online.
For example, some websites calculate Pakistani gold prices directly by converting international spot gold into rupees. Those calculated rates can differ materially from the APGJSA benchmark used by Pakistan’s mainstream bullion-market reporting. One international pricing service, for instance, showed a different Pakistan-equivalent tola price on September 1.
For consistency, this report uses the APGJSA market benchmark of Rs465,336 per tola as the primary Pakistani gold rate.
Actual jewellery-shop prices can also vary because of purity, making charges, dealer margins and local market conditions.
Gold Market Outlook
The next direction for gold is likely to depend heavily on US economic data and expectations for Federal Reserve policy.
Investors will particularly monitor labour-market figures for signs of whether the US economy is cooling or remaining strong enough to support tighter monetary policy.
For Pakistani buyers, international bullion prices remain a major influence, alongside the rupee-dollar exchange rate and domestic market conditions.
For now, the latest APGJSA benchmark puts 24-karat gold at Rs465,336 per tola, down Rs800 on Tuesday, while silver stands at Rs7,129 per tola, down Rs50.
