Gold Price in Pakistan Drops Rs3,600 to Rs465,536 Per Tola

KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Gold and silver prices declined in Pakistan and international markets on Saturday, September 5, ending two consecutive days of stability in precious-metal rates.

According to rates shared by the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the price of 24-karat gold fell by Rs3,600 per tola, bringing the domestic rate down to Rs465,536.

The price of 10 grams of gold also declined by Rs3,086, settling at Rs399,122.

The decline in domestic rates came alongside weakness in the international bullion market, where gold dropped $36 per ounce to $4,430.

International bullion had already come under pressure on Friday after stronger-than-expected US employment data increased expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates. Spot gold fell during Friday’s trading as the US dollar strengthened, reducing the appeal of dollar-denominated bullion.

The decline followed considerable volatility in Pakistan’s bullion market. On Friday, local gold had risen by Rs3,900 per tola to Rs469,136, despite weakness in international prices. A day earlier, gold had recorded a much larger increase of Rs11,200 per tola.

Saturday’s Rs3,600 decline therefore brought the per-tola price from Rs469,136 to Rs465,536.

Silver Price Also Falls in Pakistan

Silver followed gold lower on Saturday.

The price of silver declined by Rs63 per tola to Rs7,098, while the rate for 10 grams of silver fell Rs54 to Rs6,085.

The latest movement highlights continued volatility in precious metals as traders assess US monetary policy expectations, inflation risks, the dollar and geopolitical uncertainty.

Gold is particularly sensitive to changes in interest-rate expectations because it does not generate interest. Higher expected rates can make yield-bearing assets relatively more attractive and can strengthen the US dollar, creating pressure on bullion.

Reuters reported that stronger US payroll figures on Friday increased expectations of a possible September Federal Reserve rate increase. The probability of a hike rose to around 65% from 55% before the employment report, while investors turned their attention toward upcoming US inflation data.

For Pakistani buyers, international bullion movements remain an important driver of local rates alongside the rupee-dollar exchange rate and domestic market conditions.
