Pakistan’s Ghulam Mustafa Bashir finishes third in the eight-man final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery in Japan.
Web Desk: Pakistan shooter Ghulam Mustafa Bashir won the bronze medal in the men’s 25-metre rapid-fire pistol at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan on Thursday, adding another medal to Pakistan’s tally.
Bashir finished third with 22 hits in the eight-man final at the Aichi Prefecture General Shooting Gallery. South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok won gold with 32 hits, while China’s Su Lianbofan took silver after also finishing on 32.
Bashir fights through to podium finish
The veteran Pakistani shooter entered the final after finishing sixth in qualification with 578 points and 19 inner tens across the two stages.
He had initially stood eighth after the first qualification stage, scoring 289 points with eight inner tens. He improved his position in the second stage to secure a place among the eight finalists.
Bashir remained in medal contention during the elimination stages before finishing third with 22 hits.
Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy finished fourth with 20 hits.
First Asian Games medal for Bashir
The bronze marks Bashir’s first individual Asian Games medal.
The three-time Olympian previously won bronze in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol at the 2022 ISSF World Championships in Cairo. He has represented Pakistan at the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Bashir also reached the final at the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou, where he finished sixth.
Pakistan’s medal tally reaches six
Bashir’s bronze took Pakistan’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games to six medals, according to Geo News.
Dawn reported that the shooting bronze was Pakistan’s first shooting medal at these Games.
Pakistan’s other medals have come across disciplines including squash, MMA, esports and women’s cricket.
South Korea and China take top positions
South Korea’s Lee Gunhyeok and China’s Su Lianbofan finished level on 32 hits, with Lee winning the gold after the tiebreak.
Their scores were reported as an Asian Games and Asian record.
Bashir’s bronze adds another podium finish to Pakistan’s campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and gives the country a medal in shooting after his progression through a competitive qualification round.
