Global Petrol Prices Rise 23%, Pakistan Feels Economic Impact

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that a 23 percent increase in global petrol prices is beginning to affect Pakistan’s economy, including pressure on the country’s stock market.

Speaking to the media at the Directorate General Public Relations office in Lahore alongside adviser to the chief minister on price control Salma Butt, Bukhari said rising international fuel prices are having visible economic consequences across multiple sectors.

She said the Punjab government, under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is strengthening the Price Control Department and introducing measures aimed at providing relief to citizens. According to Bukhari, such public relief initiatives are unprecedented compared with other provinces.

Bukhari also noted that the region is currently facing a war-like situation, adding that Pakistan is dealing with multiple security and economic challenges simultaneously. She said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is working to stabilize the situation while the country continues efforts to improve economic conditions despite global pressures.

Addressing security preparations, the minister said authorities are taking strict measures to maintain law and order during Youm-e-Ali processions and religious gatherings across the country.

In Lahore alone, around 8,000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure safety during processions and religious assemblies. Across Punjab, authorities expect 217 processions and gatherings, with approximately 3,000 metal detectors installed to screen participants.

Officials also confirmed that 32 Category-A processions will take place across the province, requiring heightened security arrangements.

Bukhari added that the chief minister has directed regional police officers (RPOs) to remain present in the field to oversee security operations and expressed hope that the events would pass peacefully.
