Gaza’s Fate Belongs to Palestinians: Spain Rejects Trump Plan

Spain refuses to join Trump’s Gaza Peace Board, calls it outside UN mandate

Brussels, Belgium – Web Desk: Spain has firmly rejected joining former US President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza “Board of Peace,” stating that decisions about Gaza’s future rest solely with the Palestinian people.

According to international news agencies, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez made the remarks while speaking to journalists after a European Union summit in Brussels. He said that while Spain appreciates the invitation extended by Trump, it cannot accept participation in a body that bypasses the United Nations framework.

Sánchez stressed that the proposed peace board seeks to determine Gaza’s future through misconceptions and outside the UN’s jurisdiction. He also criticized the exclusion of the Palestinian Authority from the board, noting that Palestinians have the primary and legitimate right to decide the fate of Gaza and the West Bank.

Spain joins several European countries—including France, Norway, the United Kingdom, and Canada—that have either refused or adopted a cautious stance toward Trump’s initiative. The European Union has also expressed concern over the structure of the board, warning about excessive concentration of power and possible violations of UN principles.

The development comes amid the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, under which Trump announced the formation of the Gaza Board of Peace to oversee administrative affairs.
