Gaza Peace Plan: U.S. Urges UN to Approve Security Force

Date:

NEW YOURT: Washington has formally requested the United Nations Security Council to authorize the deployment of an International Security Force (ISF) in Gaza for a minimum of two years.

According to the American news outlet Axios, the U.S. has circulated a draft resolution among UNSC member states detailing the proposed force’s mandate, responsibilities, and operational framework.

The report states that the ISF would be established in consultation with the Gaza Board of Peace, which would be chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump. As outlined in the draft, the force would be tasked with securing Gaza’s borders, protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors, training Palestinian police, and demilitarizing the region.

The ISF would be empowered to take all necessary actions under international law to fulfill its mandate. Notably, the report clarifies that the ISF would be an enforcement force, not a peacekeeping mission. Its primary objective would be to provide transitional security in Gaza, facilitating Israel’s gradual withdrawal and enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume administrative control following institutional reforms.
The resolution also proposes that Gaza’s civil administration be managed by a non-political technocratic committee, while humanitarian aid would be delivered through the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the Red Crescent.
