France Calls UN Security Council Meeting on Lebanon Tensions

Date:

Paris, France – Web Desk: France has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to address the rapidly escalating tensions in Lebanon, expressing deep concern over the surge in violence in the region.

According to a statement from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Security Council session is scheduled to take place on Wednesday to discuss the worsening security situation and its potential impact on regional stability.

France said the meeting aims to evaluate the latest developments in Lebanon and encourage coordinated international efforts to prevent further escalation.

The French government warned that the ongoing violence could destabilize not only Lebanon but the broader Middle East if immediate diplomatic action is not taken. Paris also urged the international community to take urgent steps to ensure peace and stability in the region.

The move comes as armed confrontations have intensified in Lebanon following retaliatory actions by Hezbollah after recent military strikes linked to the broader conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Reports indicate that various locations in Lebanon have seen strikes targeting Hezbollah positions and individuals, significantly heightening tensions across the country.

Lebanon’s fragile political and security environment has become increasingly strained as the government faces growing pressure to address Hezbollah’s military activities. Officials in Beirut have also raised the issue of potentially disarming the group as part of broader efforts to restore stability.

Meanwhile, Syria has reportedly expressed support for initiatives aimed at limiting Hezbollah’s armed presence in Lebanon, reflecting the widening geopolitical dimensions of the crisis.

France emphasized that it would continue working through the United Nations to promote diplomatic solutions and strengthen international cooperation to resolve the Lebanese crisis.

Analysts warn that without swift diplomatic intervention, the escalating tensions could further destabilize Lebanon and intensify the broader Middle East conflict.
