Four FBR Officials Killed in DI Khan Gun Attack; Policeman Dies in Separate Shooting
DERA ISMAIL KHAN, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Four Federal Board of Revenue officials were killed on Tuesday when unidentified armed assailants opened fire in Dera Ismail Khan, while a policeman was killed in a separate attack on a highway patrol vehicle as the district faces heightened security threats.
The first attack occurred near Qureshi Mor in Dera Ismail Khan, where gunmen targeted the FBR personnel.
District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad confirmed that four FBR officials lost their lives in the shooting.
Two of the four victims were serving with the Federal Board of Revenue on a contractual basis.
Emergency teams reached the area following the attack and shifted the bodies for further legal and medical procedures.
In a separate incident, armed attackers targeted a highway traffic police mobile near the Mufti Mahmood Chowk bypass.
The attack killed a police official and injured another.
Police launched investigations and search operations following the shootings as authorities worked to identify and apprehend those responsible.
No group had publicly claimed responsibility for the attacks at the time of publication.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the killings and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained severely affected by terrorism and reiterated the government’s determination to continue confronting militant violence.
Tuesday’s attacks come during a period of heightened security concerns in Dera Ismail Khan.
Security forces have conducted several intelligence-based operations in the district in recent days.
Three suspected militants were killed during an intelligence-based operation on October 5, a day after eight others, including three described by authorities as key commanders, were killed in another operation in the district.
Dera Ismail Khan also witnessed a deadly attack on September 26 when a suicide bomber targeted the Aman Mela checkpoint in Darazinda.
That attack and subsequent gunfire resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, including casualties among government and rescue personnel.
The latest shootings have again highlighted security challenges facing government officials and law enforcement personnel operating in the district.
Police have not yet publicly established the motive for Tuesday’s attacks or identified the assailants.
Investigations remain underway, and authorities are expected to release further details as information becomes available.
