Five Militants Killed, Two Wounded in North Waziristan Intelligence Operation
NORTH WAZIRISTAN, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistani security forces killed five suspected militants and wounded two others during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan on Tuesday as counterterrorism operations continued across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Security forces targeted suspected militant hideouts in North Waziristan and surrounding areas after monitoring the movement of the group before launching the operation.
Five suspected members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were killed during the operation, while two others sustained injuries.
Pakistani authorities refer to TTP-linked militants as “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
Security forces have been conducting intelligence-based operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the government’s Azm-e-Istehkam counterterrorism framework.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the security forces following Tuesday’s operation and commended their response against militant activity in North Waziristan.
He said counterterrorism operations would continue until the threat posed by militant groups was eliminated.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised the security forces and said timely action had prevented militants from carrying out their objectives.
He reiterated that eliminating terrorism and establishing lasting peace remained a government priority.
Tuesday’s operation comes amid a series of security actions across North Waziristan and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On October 2, security forces killed seven suspected TTP militants during another intelligence-based operation in the Eidak area of North Waziristan.
Three suspected militants were also killed during an operation in Mir Ali on September 30.
Pakistan has faced an increase in militant violence in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, prompting security forces to intensify intelligence-based operations in affected regions.
North Waziristan, which borders Afghanistan, has remained a key focus of counterterrorism activity.
No casualties among security personnel or civilians were reported in the initial information released about Tuesday’s operation.
Further details about the identities of those killed, weapons recovered or the precise location of the operation were not immediately made public.
