Asim Munir arrives in Tehran
According to ISPR, the visit is part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
Field Marshal Munir is expected to hold discussions with senior Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran, according to Fars news agency as reported by Geo News.
The military’s media wing said Munir will focus on advancing efforts toward a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution to the conflict in the Middle East.
Meeting with Iranian interior minister
Munir’s meeting with Eskandar Momeni comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement with Iran amid the wider regional conflict.
The presence of Mohsin Naqvi at the meeting also highlights the broader security and diplomatic significance of the visit.
Further details about the discussions were not immediately provided by ISPR.
Pakistan’s mediation efforts
Pakistan has been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States.
According to Geo News, Islamabad previously brokered a two-week ceasefire between the two sides on April 8 and has continued to relay messages between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan has also previously hosted Iranian officials as part of efforts to encourage dialogue and de-escalation.
In June, Field Marshal Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, with both sides discussing regional developments, peace initiatives and the strengthening of Pakistan-Iran relations.
Regional tensions remain high
Munir’s visit comes against the backdrop of continued tensions in the Middle East and renewed pressure on Iran.
The United States is preparing further sanctions on Iran, while Tehran has warned of a response to measures that it considers hostile. Geo News reported that the new sanctions were expected to add further economic pressure on Iran.
The developments have also raised concerns about the potential impact on regional security and energy supplies.
Focus on a peaceful resolution
According to ISPR, the central objective of Field Marshal Munir’s current visit is to support efforts toward peace and stability.
The military’s statement specifically said the CDF would focus on efforts toward a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the Middle East conflict.
The visit could therefore provide another opportunity for Islamabad and Tehran to exchange views on regional security and the ongoing diplomatic process.
