Elon Musk Lashes Out After OpenAI Lawsuit Dismissal, Vows Appeal

Date:

Oakland, United States – Web Desk: Elon Musk has strongly criticized a U.S. court decision after a jury rejected his lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the company’s leadership of abandoning its original non-profit mission for financial gain.

Reacting to the verdict in a post on X, Musk claimed the ruling was based on a “calendar technicality” rather than the substance of the case. He alleged that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman enriched themselves by transforming OpenAI into a profit-driven organization.

“There is no question to anyone following the case in detail that Altman & Brockman did in fact enrich themselves by stealing a charity. The only question is WHEN they did it!” Musk wrote.

The billionaire entrepreneur also announced plans to challenge the ruling in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, warning that the verdict could set a damaging precedent for charitable organizations in the United States.

The decision came after a nine-member jury in Oakland unanimously dismissed Musk’s high-profile lawsuit on Monday, May 18, concluding a three-week trial that included testimony from Musk, Altman, Brockman, and Satya Nadella.

Musk’s legal complaint alleged that OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, shifted from its founding non-profit model to a for-profit structure after receiving nearly $38 million in donations from him during the company’s early years.

The case has drawn significant attention across the technology industry, highlighting ongoing debates over artificial intelligence governance, corporate control, and the commercialization of AI research.
