NEPRA to review CPPA request for fuel price adjustment; rates may rise from January 29.
Islamabad: Pakistan’s electricity consumers may face higher bills as NEPRA prepares to review a request from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for a fuel price adjustment. The agency has requested an increase of 48 paisa per unit for one month. According to CPPA data, in December, 848.7 million units of electricity were generated, while 820.8 million units were supplied to DISCOs. The production cost per unit in December was 9.62 PKR. NEPRA will hold a hearing on January 29 to decide whether the proposed adjustment will be implemented. This temporary increase could impact household and industrial electricity bills across Pakistan. Energy experts warn consumers to anticipate slightly higher costs in their upcoming electricity bills, urging careful energy management. The decision highlights ongoing fluctuations in fuel prices and their direct effect on electricity tariffs in Pakistan.
