The military says eight militants were killed when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated prematurely during an attempted attack in Surab.

WEB DESK: Eight terrorists were killed after a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) detonated prematurely during an attempted attack in Surab, Balochistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

According to the military’s media wing, the militants were attempting to carry out a terrorist attack when the explosives-laden vehicle detonated before reaching its intended target.

VBIED detonates prematurely

The ISPR said the premature explosion resulted in the deaths of eight terrorists involved in the attempted attack.

A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device is a vehicle packed with explosives and intended to cause extensive damage when detonated. Such devices have been used by militant groups in attacks against security forces and civilian targets.

The military said the incident occurred in Surab district of Balochistan as the militants attempted to execute their plan.

Security forces remain alert

Following the explosion, security personnel secured the area and launched necessary measures to ensure there was no further threat.

The military has maintained that security forces are continuing operations against militant groups across Balochistan and other parts of the country.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that militants may attempt attacks on security installations and other sensitive targets.

Investigation under way

Security authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine the identities and affiliations of the militants killed in the explosion.

The incident comes amid continued counterterrorism operations in Balochistan, where security forces have been conducting intelligence-based operations against militant networks.
