Drug Queen Case Sparks Heated Debate in NA Committee

Date:

Islamabad, Pakistan – Web Desk: The issue surrounding alleged drug trafficker Anmol alias “Pinkie” once again echoed in the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior, where lawmakers engaged in a heated exchange over committee proceedings and related allegations.

The meeting, chaired by Raja Khurram Nawaz, saw strong remarks from PPP leader Agha Rafiullah, who objected to the minutes of the 16 February session, stating that officials from relevant institutions were not appearing before the committee, which he said amounted to disrespect of Parliament.

The committee chair responded that ministers had been directed to appear before the panel, adding that the same position had been communicated within Parliament.

During the session, the case of Anmol alias Pinkie was again discussed. According to the committee chair, the accused’s lawyer had reportedly mentioned former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf during court proceedings, prompting questions from both Sindh Police and FIA officials.

Raja Pervez Ashraf, who appeared before the committee, said that initial clips circulating included references to both “Raja Pervez” and “Raja Pervez Ashraf,” adding that he received multiple calls from concerned individuals questioning his alleged involvement.

He further stated that another clip later surfaced in which the accused’s lawyer claimed that Anmol was being pressured to take his name. Ashraf expressed surprise over the situation, questioning why such claims would emerge in Sindh where his party is in power.

He said social media users and vloggers often amplify sensational content for attention, urging caution against unverified narratives.

Ashraf also thanked the committee chair for taking immediate notice of the matter, saying regulatory measures were needed to address such incidents, and if they could not be eliminated, they should at least be controlled.

Earlier, he had emphasized that institutions must operate within their constitutional limits, adding that false allegations cause distress and that even his political opponents had acknowledged he had no link to the case.
