DNA Evidence Provides Major Breakthrough in Lahore Assault Investigation

Date:

Lahore, Pakistan – Web Desk: A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation into the alleged abduction and sexual assault of foreign women in Lahore’s Defence area after DNA evidence reportedly matched one of the suspects, according to investigative sources.

Sources said the DNA report has been incorporated into the investigation and is expected to play a significant role in the ongoing inquiry. Investigators allege that one of the accused, identified as Nawaz, was the first to allegedly assault one of the victims, while other suspects are also accused of involvement in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the complete forensic findings or announced any final conclusions.

Meanwhile, police have also registered a separate case related to the traffic accident involving the victims’ vehicle before they reportedly escaped from the suspects.

According to police, the case was registered at South Cantonment Police Station on the complaint of a citizen, Usman, who alleged that his vehicle sustained damages worth Rs300,000 after being hit near Lahore Airport on July 1.

Earlier, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran stated during a press conference that the Lahore Police were conducting the investigation independently, adding that all suspects, including one allegedly linked to a senior government minister, were being treated equally under the law.

He clarified that the case is being investigated by the Lahore Police and the Punjab Police’s specialized Rape Cell, rather than the Crime Control Department (CCD).

In a related development, the Lahore Sessions Court heard the interim bail plea of SHO Defence-C Faryad Ali, who is facing a separate case over allegations of intimidating a judicial magistrate.

The court barred police from arresting the SHO until July 10, issued notices to the police, sought a response, and directed the officer to join the investigation.

The alleged intimidation case was registered at Mustafa Abad Police Station, and legal proceedings remain underway.
