Claims of MQM-P security withdrawal are baseless: Sharjeel Memon

Date:

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday rejected claims that security had been withdrawn from Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) ministers, terming the reports baseless and misleading.

Speaking to the media, Sharjeel Memon said that security had not been withdrawn from any MQM-P minister or leader, adding that those entitled to protection had full security in accordance with the law and security protocol.

He said a “rumour” was spread that security had been withdrawn from MQM-P, and alleged that MQM-P was taking it as propaganda.

Commenting on the Gul Plaza tragedy, the Sindh minister said that visits to the homes of victims should be for condolence, not political propaganda. He announced that compensation cheques were now being personally delivered to the families of the deceased and affected individuals, adding that attempts to spread misinformation would be firmly rejected.

Sharjeel Memon said the inquiry report into the Gul Plaza incident would be released soon, and if it failed to satisfy concerns, a judicial commission could also be formed.

Earlier Sindh government spokesperson Sumeta Afzal Syed also rejected the allegations, saying MQM had “once again spread a false narrative and negative propaganda”.
