Bomb Blast Near Peshawar Police Checkpost Injures Officer

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: A bomb exploded near a police checkpost on Frontier Road in Peshawar on Wednesday, injuring one police officer and partially damaging the post’s boundary wall, according to police.

The explosion occurred beside the Sarakhora police checkpost, Express Urdu reported, citing police officials.

Police said the blast was caused by an explosive device planted near the checkpost. One officer sustained injuries in the explosion, while part of the police post’s wall was damaged.

The available initial report did not identify the injured officer or provide details about the severity of his injuries.

Police teams reached the site following the explosion and launched a search operation in the surrounding area.

No civilian casualties were reported in the initial information.

Authorities had also not immediately announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

Responsibility Not Yet Established

No group had been identified in the available initial reporting as responsible for Wednesday’s explosion.

The cause is being described by police as a planted bomb, but motive, responsibility and the identity of those who placed the device have not yet been established publicly.

This distinction is important for breaking-news coverage. The incident should not yet be attributed to any militant organisation unless police, the Counter Terrorism Department or another competent authority provides confirmation.

The search operation was continuing at the time of the initial report.

Separate Attacks Highlight Security Concerns in KP

Wednesday’s Peshawar incident comes amid continuing attacks targeting police personnel elsewhere in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a separate incident reported Wednesday, three policemen were injured during a grenade attack on the Sri Bahlol police post in Mardan district. Police said the attacker was killed after a sentry returned fire, while a second grenade in his possession exploded during the confrontation.

That attack occurred on Monday night and is separate from the latest Peshawar blast.

Recent incidents have kept security around police installations under focus across the province. However, the latest Peshawar explosion should be assessed on its own evidence rather than automatically linked to other attacks.

Further information is expected from police regarding the type and quantity of explosives used, the injured officer’s condition, possible CCTV evidence and whether investigators have identified any suspects.

For now, the confirmed information is limited: a planted explosive device detonated near the Sarakhora police checkpost on Frontier Road, one policeman was injured, part of the wall was damaged and police launched a search operation.
