Bilawal Urges Global Community to Choose Dialogue Over War
ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has called on the international community to resolve disputes through negotiations rather than military confrontation, saying dialogue, diplomacy, justice and respect for sovereignty should form the foundation of lasting peace.
In a message marking the International Day of Peace, Bilawal said conflicts across different parts of the world had demonstrated that military confrontation does not provide sustainable solutions to political disputes. He urged governments to strengthen diplomatic mechanisms and prioritise negotiations.
Referring to the conflict between the United States and Iran, Bilawal highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating communication between the two sides and encouraging efforts towards a negotiated settlement.
He cited the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, saying the diplomatic initiative demonstrated the value of dialogue over warfare. Pakistan’s National Assembly has separately documented the signing of the Islamabad MoU in June 2026 and described it as part of efforts to reduce hostilities and support diplomatic engagement.
Bilawal said Pakistan understood the human and economic consequences of conflict because of its own experience with war, terrorism and regional instability. He characterised Islamabad’s facilitation between Washington and Tehran as consistent with Pakistan’s stated policy of supporting peaceful dispute resolution.
Turning to South Asia, the PPP chairman called for outstanding regional disputes — including Kashmir, water-related issues and terrorism — to be addressed through dialogue and diplomacy rather than military confrontation.
Bilawal also expressed concern over continuing civilian suffering in the Middle East and called for an end to violence, protection of civilians and meaningful international efforts towards a lasting settlement. He argued that international principles should be applied consistently and highlighted sovereignty, territorial integrity, human rights and peoples’ right to self-determination.
He said peace should not be understood merely as the absence of war, but as requiring justice, equality, dialogue and respect for human dignity.
The PPP chairman urged world leaders to prioritise diplomatic cooperation over confrontation and negotiations over battlefield solutions. His remarks come as renewed tensions in the Middle East continue to place diplomacy, regional security and civilian protection high on the international agenda.
Bilawal’s comments represent the PPP chairman’s political and diplomatic position on conflict resolution rather than a new policy announcement by Pakistan’s federal government.
