Bahrain Foreign Minister to Visit Pakistan for Key Bilateral Talks

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani is set to arrive in Pakistan for high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation between Islamabad and Manama.

The visit will include the third session of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission, a key institutional mechanism for advancing cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Bahraini counterpart will co-chair the commission’s meeting.

The talks are expected to focus on economic and trade relations as well as opportunities for greater cooperation in investment and other mutually beneficial sectors.

Pakistan has completed preparations for the meeting, with relevant ministries and government departments coordinating their proposals and priorities ahead of the Bahraini delegation’s engagements.

The Joint Ministerial Commission provides both countries with a platform to review bilateral economic and trade relations, take decisions on agreed areas of cooperation and oversee their implementation.

Two sessions of the commission have previously been held, with the second taking place in Bahrain in July 2021.

The latest engagement comes as Islamabad and Manama seek to broaden their longstanding relationship beyond traditional diplomatic ties and increase economic cooperation.

Pakistan and Bahrain have also been working towards expanding bilateral trade. The two countries previously agreed to pursue a target of raising annual trade to $1 billion while exploring further cooperation in investment, information technology, food security, banking, fintech and minerals.

Dar and Al Zayani also met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, providing another opportunity to review bilateral relations ahead of the ministerial commission.

The Islamabad meeting is expected to build on those engagements and identify practical measures for expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The visit also reflects Pakistan’s wider diplomatic engagement with Gulf states as Islamabad seeks stronger economic, investment and strategic partnerships across the region.
