Babar Azam Named Pakistan Test Captain for England Tour

LAHORE, Pakistan – Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 16-member Pakistan Test squad for the upcoming tours of the West Indies and England, with Babar Azam appointed as the team’s Test captain.

The squad was announced by selection committee member Aaqib Javed, who was accompanied by Asad Shafiq and former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq during the press conference.

The squad includes captain Babar Azam, Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq, Azan Awais, Abdullah Fazal, Salman Ali Agha, Ghazi Ghori, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan.

The bowling unit features Sajid Khan, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Abbas, Ubaid Shah, Awais Zafar, and Khurram Shahzad.

Middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has been left out of the squad due to fitness concerns.

Pakistan will begin the tour with a Test series against the West Indies, with the team scheduled to play a warm-up match in Tarouba on July 18. The first Test between Pakistan and the West Indies will be played from July 25 to July 29 in Tarouba before the squad heads to England.

Speaking on the occasion, Aaqib Javed said the current selection committee has been working together for the past 18 months, while Misbah-ul-Haq and Sarfaraz Ahmed joined the panel six months ago. He added that player selection is based on performances across the three international formats.
