Arrests made in viral video of girl beaten, hair cut

Date:

(Web Desk) – The Islamabad Police have arrested key suspects in a shocking case in Rawalpindi that has sparked outrage after a video showing a girl being beaten and having her hair forcibly cut circulated widely on social media.

Officials said the assault took place roughly six weeks ago in the Rawalpindi area, but only came to the attention of authorities after the footage went viral.

The SSP Operations Islamabad took notice of the clip and sought an immediate report, prompting the Loi Bher police to trace the victim and record her statement.

After raids at multiple locations, the individuals seen in the footage were taken into custody.

During the investigation, it was confirmed that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi, and the arrested suspects have now been handed over to the relevant police for further legal proceedings.

In Islamabad, the owners of a beauty salon and some influential people tortured a girl who worked at the salon and cut her hair. Emaan releases video statement requesting help

In a video message that has been shared on Twitter, the victim, who identifies herself as Mahen, described the ordeal in her own words:

“Assalam o Alaikum. My name is Mahen, and 1.5 months ago, this incident happened to me. When I was at home, a girl named Sanna and a boy called Armaan came and took me from the house to their flat on Masriyal Road in Christian Colony. They took me there, hit me, cut my hair, and made my video.

“Then they took me to Bahria Town in a flat, and they threatened me with pistols, and made a video that if they ever see me again, they would shoot me on the spot with a pistol. These four boys are Armaan, Durani, Mithu, and the fourth’s name I don’t remember. When I got to know how they spread my video, I now want to protest and ask the authorities to take action against them.”

The footage and the victim’s testimony have ignited public condemnation. Civil society groups and social media users have demanded swift and stringent legal action against those responsible for the physical assault, the threats, and the apparent use of video to intimidate and blackmail.

Law enforcement has pledged a full investigation. Given the gravity of the allegations – including assault, forced confinement, and threats with firearms –rights advocates say the assailant should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law so that survivors receive justice and such brazen, calculated attacks are deterred in the future.
