Araghchi Warns Regional Countries Against Repeating Past Mistakes

Date:

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urges countries in the region opposing Tehran to avoid past mistakes as tensions continue across the Middle East.

TEHRAN, IRAN — WEB DESK: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged regional countries opposing Tehran to avoid supporting further military action against Iran and use their influence to encourage Washington to pursue diplomacy instead of war.

In an interview with Russian television, Araghchi called on governments across the region to prevent another military confrontation and work towards reducing tensions. He expressed hope that regional leaders had learned from previous conflicts and would avoid becoming involved in a new escalation.

Araghchi said Iran had targeted US military bases in the region rather than neighbouring Gulf countries. He maintained that Tehran had warned neighbouring states in advance that American military facilities on their territory could become targets if the United States attacked Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister also rejected responsibility for Iranian missiles landing in Gulf countries, arguing that the incidents should not be attributed to Tehran.

He further questioned the ability of US military bases to protect the countries hosting them, saying regional governments should reconsider whether the presence of foreign forces was contributing to their security.

Iran Calls for Diplomacy to Prevent Further Conflict

Araghchi urged regional governments to use their diplomatic influence to discourage Washington from launching another military operation against Iran. He argued that efforts should focus on de-escalation and peace rather than actions that could widen the conflict.

His remarks reflect Tehran’s continuing opposition to potential US military action and its efforts to discourage neighbouring countries from supporting such operations.

The comments come amid heightened tensions involving Iran, the United States and regional states, with the security of Gulf countries and the presence of foreign military forces remaining contentious issues.

During the same interview, Araghchi also addressed questions about Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and the absence of publicly released photographs. He said security concerns were behind the decision not to release images, while asserting that the leader continued to oversee major state affairs.

The impact of Araghchi’s appeal on regional governments remains uncertain. Whether diplomatic efforts can prevent another confrontation will depend on the decisions of Washington, Tehran and other governments across the region.
