Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Web Desk: Pakistan’s young left-arm spinner Arafat Minhas expressed his delight after playing a key role in Pakistan’s victory on his One-Day International (ODI) debut, describing the win as even more special because it came in the country’s landmark 1,000th ODI match.
Speaking at a post-match press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Minhas said the conditions favored spin bowling due to the hot weather and dry surface. He noted that Pakistan’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was influenced by the pitch conditions, which offered significant assistance to spinners.
The 20-year-old credited his parents and several mentors for supporting his cricket journey and helping him reach the international stage. Despite making his debut in a high-profile match, Minhas said he did not feel any significant pressure and remained focused on contributing to the team’s success.
“I have always tried to perform at every level of cricket, whether it was Under-19 cricket or the Pakistan Super League,” he said.
Addressing comparisons with other players, Minhas emphasized that he does not want to be seen as anyone’s replacement and instead aims to build his own identity in Pakistan cricket.
“I do not want to be anyone’s substitute. I want to create my own identity and become a permanent member of the Pakistan team,” he said.
Minhas made history against Australia by becoming the first Pakistani bowler to claim a five-wicket haul on ODI debut. His outstanding performance played a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory and marked a memorable start to his international career.
