ISLAMABAD – Web Desk: Senior politician Ali Amin Gandapur appeared before the District and Sessions Court Islamabad on Thursday in an audio leak case, leading to the cancellation of his arrest warrant and the termination of proceedings that had declared him a proclaimed offender.
The hearing was presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasr Minallah Baloch. Gandapur, accompanied by his lawyer Raja Zahoor-ul-Hassan, attended the session alongside co-accused Asad Farooq Khan.
During the proceedings, the court formally framed charges against both defendants in the audio leak case. Judge Baloch noted that Gandapur had previously failed to appear on multiple occasions. In response, the politician cited security concerns, curfews, and road closures as reasons for his absence.
Gandapur told the court that the phone conversation in question involved discussions related to licensing matters and that his mobile device had been seized during law enforcement operations. The judge remarked that prosecution claims alone are insufficient for conviction and emphasized that charges had not been framed for an extended period.
Defense counsel requested the cancellation of the arrest warrant, arguing that the court possessed the authority to revoke it once the accused was present. The court accepted the request, formally canceling the warrant and instructing Gandapur to attend future hearings regularly and exercise caution.
The judge further advised that in cases of unavoidable absence, a formal exemption request should be submitted to the court.
The next hearing has been scheduled for April 6, 2026.
