Qatar Says US-Iran Mediation Continues, Expresses Confidence in Possible Deal
DOHA: Qatar has said its mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are continuing, with Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani expressing confidence that the two countries could reach a diplomatic agreement.
Speaking about the ongoing negotiations, the Qatari prime minister said significant progress had been made in efforts to bridge differences between Washington and Tehran and prevent further escalation across the Middle East.
Al-Thani said the US administration remained willing to pursue a diplomatic solution even after the recent US midterm elections. He added that Washington’s interest in reaching an agreement had not changed despite the political developments.
The Qatari leader expressed optimism about the negotiations, saying that the objective should be to secure a workable agreement rather than wait for a perfect settlement.
Qatar’s mediation efforts are aimed at preventing the regional situation from spiralling out of control and encouraging both sides to resolve their differences through diplomatic channels.
The latest developments come amid continued tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and the wider confrontation involving the United States and Iran.
Iran has also presented a seven-day proposal seeking an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports, the unfreezing of Iranian assets and arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump has so far rejected the proposal.
Meanwhile, concerns about a possible resumption of military action have continued, with Iran warning that it would retaliate against US and Israeli targets in neighbouring countries if further attacks occur.
Qatar has maintained communication with both sides as part of its efforts to facilitate negotiations and reduce regional tensions.
Despite the reported progress, the details of a possible agreement remain unclear. No final deal has been announced, and important differences between Washington and Tehran remain unresolved.
The continuation of Qatar’s mediation efforts offers a diplomatic channel for negotiations as regional governments seek to prevent further escalation and restore stability across the Middle East.
