Trump Says Impeaching Him Would ‘Destroy’ Democratic Party

Date:

US President Donald Trump dismisses impeachment concerns after Democratic victories in the 2026 midterm elections, warning that any attempt to remove him could backfire politically.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has warned that any attempt by Democrats to impeach him after taking control of Congress could seriously damage their own party.

Trump made the remarks at the White House on Wednesday, November 4, following a major Republican setback in the 2026 US midterm elections. Democrats secured control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, strengthening their position to challenge the administration.

Asked whether he was concerned about a possible impeachment effort, Trump dismissed the prospect.

“No, no, no, not even a little bit,” he said, arguing that Democrats would face political consequences if they pursued impeachment without sufficient grounds.

Trump also defended his presidency, questioning why lawmakers would seek to remove him from office and claiming that the United States was performing better than at any previous point in its history.

Despite his criticism, the president indicated that he remained open to working with Democrats in Congress.

“I’ll get along probably with the Democrats unless they want to be destructive, but I have the power of the veto,” Trump said.

The Democratic victory is expected to bring increased congressional scrutiny of Trump’s administration when the new Congress begins in January 2027. With control of both chambers, Democrats will have greater influence over legislation, investigations, government oversight and federal appointments.

The election results also position Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer to return as majority leader, giving the party a stronger role in shaping the congressional agenda.

Economic concerns, rising fuel prices and dissatisfaction with the administration’s handling of the Iran war were among the factors highlighted in the election coverage as contributing to Republican losses.

A Fox News poll conducted in mid-October placed Trump’s job approval rating at 36%, while 64% of respondents disapproved of his performance.

The Democratic takeover sets the stage for a more confrontational relationship between Congress and the White House during the second half of Trump’s presidential term.
