Saudi Strikes Hit Yemen Port and Oil Facility, Seven Injured

Date:

Saudi-led coalition strikes target Ras Issa port and an oil facility in Yemen’s Hodeidah province, with seven people reported injured amid escalating regional tensions.

SANAA: Saudi-led coalition strikes targeted a key Red Sea port and an oil facility in Yemen’s Hodeidah province, leaving seven people injured, Yemen’s Houthi authorities reported on Monday.

The reported attacks hit Ras Issa port, a strategic oil terminal on Yemen’s western coast, and an oil facility in Bajil district. Four civilians were reportedly injured at Ras Issa port, while three others sustained injuries in the attack on the oil facility.

Houthi health ministry spokesman Anees Alasbahi reported the casualties in a statement shared on social media platform X. He condemned the attacks on the facilities, describing them as violations of international humanitarian law.

Houthi-run Al-Masirah television also reported that a pier and a commercial vessel at Ras Issa port were targeted during the strikes.

Ras Issa is an important oil import and storage facility located north of Hodeidah city. The wider Hodeidah port area serves as a major entry point for food, humanitarian assistance and other essential supplies reaching Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition announced that it had conducted what it described as a precision military operation to neutralise resources used by the Houthis.

Houthi media also reported strikes targeting the faculty of medicine at Hodeidah University on Sunday. Two local residents told AFP they had heard an explosion in the area.

The latest attacks come amid renewed fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

A fragile ceasefire arrangement established in 2022 collapsed in July following renewed tensions involving Iran and Saudi Arabia’s control over Yemeni airspace.

The escalation has added to Yemen’s humanitarian challenges. The United Nations estimates that more than 1,600 people have been killed and over 300,000 displaced since the fighting reignited.

The latest developments have raised further concerns about the security of critical infrastructure, humanitarian supply routes and maritime activities around the Red Sea.
