Israeli media and AFP reported that Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus died after an army Humvee overturned during operational activity in southern Lebanon.
WEB DESK: An Israeli military officer was killed and three other soldiers were injured when a military Humvee overturned during operational activity in southern Lebanon, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and reports by AFP.
The officer was identified as Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus, 21, from Haifa. He served in the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion of the IDF’s 7th Brigade. The military said the injured soldiers were taken to hospital and the officer’s family was notified.
Israeli military opens investigation
The incident occurred on October 8, 2026, when the military vehicle overturned during operational activity in southern Lebanon. The IDF launched an investigation to establish the circumstances of the accident.
The available reports did not provide a final finding on what caused the vehicle to overturn. The incident should therefore be distinguished from deaths directly attributed to an exchange of fire or an attack.
Incident amid continuing tensions in southern Lebanon
The death occurred amid continuing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon frontier and an Israeli military presence in parts of southern Lebanon.
Israel and Lebanon agreed to a US-backed framework in June 2026 that included provisions for Hezbollah’s disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal and the deployment of the Lebanese Army in areas vacated by Israeli forces. Implementation and security arrangements have remained important issues in the region.
Lebanese authorities have reported extensive casualties from Israeli air strikes and ground operations since March 2026. Figures vary by reporting date and source, and should be updated against the latest Lebanese official data before publication.
