Senior representatives of the three Mecca Pact countries are expected to hold talks with Iranian officials on regional coordination amid escalating security tensions and attacks affecting Saudi Arabia.
TEHRAN, Iran: Senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are expected to meet Iranian counterparts in Tehran on Monday, October 26, to discuss regional coordination amid growing security concerns in the Middle East.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman is expected to represent Riyadh, while Pakistan will be represented by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. Türkiye’s intelligence chief is also expected to participate, according to people familiar with the plans.
The planned talks would bring Iranian officials into high-level contact with all three members of the Mecca Pact bloc. The meeting comes as regional tensions remain elevated and Saudi Arabia faces continued missile and drone threats attributed to Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement.
Regional Security on the Agenda
The meeting is expected to focus on regional coordination. Its timing is significant as the conflict involving Iran and wider regional actors continues to create security and diplomatic challenges.
The governments of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan’s military media wing had not responded to requests for comment on the planned meeting at the time of the initial reporting. The agenda and any agreements resulting from the discussions had not been publicly confirmed.
Mecca Joint Defence Agreement
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement in August 2026. The agreement treats an armed attack against one member as an attack against all and commits the signatories to take necessary measures to protect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The pact has gained attention amid attacks affecting Saudi Arabia. Earlier in October, defence and diplomatic officials from the participating countries met in Riyadh and discussed the implementation of the agreement, including the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have completed their ratification processes, while Türkiye’s domestic approval process remains underway.
Diplomatic Significance
Pakistan has also played a role in efforts to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States. Field Marshal Munir visited Tehran in the previous week, amid continued uncertainty over the prospects for negotiations.
The planned meeting could provide an additional channel for regional consultation, although its outcome remains uncertain. Any assessment of progress will depend on official statements and confirmed details released after the talks.
The meeting is still developing, and the participants’ final attendance, detailed agenda and any decisions reached require confirmation.
