Iran vows to continue fighting until US demands are met

Iran’s parliament speaker says Tehran wants lasting security guarantees and will not accept a settlement that leaves its demands unresolved.

Tehran, Iran – Web Desk: Iran has reiterated that it will not accept a settlement that leaves its stated demands unresolved, with Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf calling for lasting security guarantees amid continuing tensions with the United States.

According to Daily Evening News’ report, Ghalibaf said Tehran wanted negotiations that would establish a sustainable defensive balance and prevent future military aggression. His reported remarks reflect Iran’s position that any settlement must address its security concerns rather than simply bring the current fighting to an end.

The comments come as diplomatic efforts remain complicated by disagreements over US economic pressure, security arrangements and the future of maritime traffic through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Seeks Lasting Security Guarantees

Ghalibaf reportedly said Iran preferred a negotiated outcome that could prevent future attacks while ensuring what Tehran considers adequate defensive deterrence.

His position suggests that Iran’s willingness to negotiate remains linked to the conditions it has set for a settlement. However, the remarks alone do not establish that all diplomatic contacts have ended or that Tehran has announced a timetable for further military action.

The precise wording of the reported televised address should be checked against the original Iranian state-media report before direct quotations are published.

Tehran Criticises US Economic Pressure

Ghalibaf also criticised Washington’s economic pressure campaign, according to the report published by Daily Evening News.

Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that US sanctions and economic restrictions cannot force Tehran to abandon its political and security positions. Ghalibaf reportedly maintained that US deadlines and economic pressure had failed to achieve Washington’s intended political outcome.

He also reportedly mocked US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent over economic predictions concerning Iran.

The remarks underline the economic dimension of the confrontation, which has affected diplomatic negotiations alongside the military and security disputes. The specific comments attributed to Ghalibaf should be verified against the original broadcast or an independently reported transcript.

Strait of Hormuz Remains a Key Dispute

The Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a central issue in efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the United States. The waterway is a major route for international oil and gas shipments, making disruptions a concern for energy markets and global trade.

In a report published on October 11, Reuters said Iran had described Washington’s response to its proposal concerning the reopening of the strait as insufficient. Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran’s conditions had not been adequately addressed. The report also described continuing disagreements over the terms of a possible settlement.

These disputes indicate that reopening the waterway and resolving the wider conflict remain linked to broader negotiations over security and economic restrictions.

Diplomatic Prospects Remain Uncertain

The latest reported remarks reinforce Tehran’s stated position that a settlement must address its conditions. They do not, by themselves, confirm that negotiations have collapsed or that a new military escalation is imminent.

A breakthrough would depend on whether Washington and Tehran can narrow their differences over security guarantees, sanctions and maritime arrangements.
