Karachi Police Dispute Over Alleged Kidnapping Escalates, DSP Reportedly Injured
KARACHI: A dispute between District Central police and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Saddar over the alleged short-term kidnapping of a young man in North Nazimabad has reportedly escalated into a confrontation between police teams, leaving a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) injured.
The dispute reportedly began after teams from District Central police and the SIU reached the location of suspects allegedly linked to the incident. The Taimuria police subsequently took the suspects into custody.
Police sources alleged that the SIU Saddar team attempted to take custody of the suspects without coordinating with District Central police, triggering a confrontation between the two sides.
During the incident, a DSP reportedly sustained a head injury. Conflicting accounts also emerged about the movement and detention of officers and personnel from both units.
According to the accounts circulating among police sources, some District Central personnel were transferred to the SIU Saddar, while District Central police took an SIU police mobile and its accompanying personnel to Nazimabad police station.
The developments prompted additional District Central police personnel to reach Nazimabad police station later in the night. Discussions were also reportedly held between senior officers in an effort to resolve the dispute.
However, the full circumstances of the confrontation, the precise number of personnel involved and the status of the alleged kidnapping investigation remain unclear.
An SIU Saddar officer rejected the circulating claims as speculation and said there was no truth to the allegations. A comprehensive official account from senior police authorities had not emerged in the available information.
The incident has raised questions about coordination between police units handling the same criminal investigation. Further details about the young man’s alleged abduction and any formal action arising from the confrontation remain awaited.
