Maaz Sadaqat Credits Positive Intent After Maiden T20I Fifty Against Sri Lanka

RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Pakistan’s emerging left-handed batter Maaz Sadaqat has credited his attacking approach and the confidence shown by the team management after scoring his maiden Twenty20 International half-century in a four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

The 21-year-old struck 50 runs from 29 deliveries, including four fours and three sixes, during the opening T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, October 9.

His innings helped Pakistan chase a target of 183 and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Sadaqat entered the crease following Fakhar Zaman’s dismissal for 21 and immediately put Sri Lanka’s bowlers under pressure.

He attacked fast bowler Eshan Malinga, hitting two sixes and a boundary in one over to accelerate Pakistan’s chase.

The young batter then combined with captain Sahibzada Farhan for a 92-run second-wicket partnership, which proved decisive in the match.

Farhan contributed 89 off 53 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes.

Young Batter Praises Pakistan Team Management

Speaking after the match, Sadaqat said he had been encouraged to play his natural game rather than change his batting style in response to outside criticism.

He explained that modern T20 cricket rewarded positive intent and that the coaching staff had given him the freedom to attack.

The left-hander described his first international T20 half-century as a memorable achievement but emphasised that Pakistan’s victory was more important.

He also expressed confidence in the team’s middle-order options, praising Hasan Nawaz and Abdul Samad.

Pakistan Chase 183 to Defeat Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka had earlier posted 182 for eight in 20 overs, with opener Lahiru Udara scoring 91 off 55 balls.

Naseem Shah led Pakistan’s bowling attack with three wickets for 36 runs, while debutant Mohammad Imran took two wickets for 21.

Pakistan reached 187 for six in 18.5 overs, completing the chase with seven balls remaining.

Farhan received the Player of the Match award for his captain’s innings.

Second T20I Scheduled for October 11

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the second T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 11, followed by the series finale on October 13.

Sadaqat said he intended to maintain his positive approach while adapting to the team’s requirements.

His performance gives Pakistan another attacking batting option, although continued consistency will be important as his international career develops.

The maiden half-century was a significant personal milestone for Sadaqat and an important contribution to Pakistan’s opening victory.
