PSX Rebounds in Early Trade as KSE-100 Recovers From Monday Sell-Off
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: The Pakistan Stock Exchange returned to positive territory on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index recovering some of the losses suffered during Monday’s sharp sell-off.
At 10:44am, the KSE-100 stood at 166,134.57 points, up 267.26 points or 0.16% from the previous close.
Earlier in the session, the recovery was considerably stronger. At around 9:48am, the benchmark had climbed more than 650 points to 166,521.38, reflecting renewed buying during the opening minutes.
The subsequent easing of gains showed that investors remained cautious despite the positive start.
Official market data at 10:44am showed total trading volume at approximately 75.85 million shares, with traded value reaching around Rs2.45 billion.
Market breadth remained slightly positive, with 216 stocks advancing, 198 declining and 156 remaining unchanged out of 570 securities.
The KSE-30 Index gained 79.68 points to 49,598.15, while the KMI-30 was up 409.13 points at 237,920.41.
Buying interest was visible in several major sectors during the opening phase, including commercial banks, cement, automobile assemblers, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies, power generation and refineries.
Tuesday’s recovery follows a steep decline in the previous session.
The KSE-100 plunged 2,288.17 points, or 1.36%, on Monday, closing at 165,867.32 compared with the previous close of 168,155.49.
The benchmark moved between an intraday high of 167,918.37 and a low of 165,764.21 during Monday’s volatile session.
Domestic political uncertainty and continuing regional risks have kept investor sentiment fragile, while developments in international energy markets remain another important factor for Pakistani equities.
The early rebound indicates renewed buying interest after Monday’s broad sell-off, but the reduction in gains from more than 650 points shortly after the opening to around 267 points by 10:44am highlights continued market volatility.
Tuesday’s session remains underway, meaning the KSE-100 level, trading volume and market breadth could change substantially before the closing bell.
Investors will be watching whether fresh buying can sustain the recovery through the remainder of the session or whether renewed selling pressure erodes the early gains.
