Two Wanted Suspects Killed in Peshawar Police Encounter

PESHAWAR, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Two men described by police as members of a criminal gang and wanted in multiple serious cases were killed during an alleged encounter in Peshawar, officials said on Thursday.

Police identified the deceased as Shakir and Usman, saying they were wanted in 13 cases involving offences including murder, attempted murder, robbery, highway robbery and attacks on police.

According to the police account reported by the Express Tribune, authorities received information that the two suspects were present in the Ghazi Baba graveyard area, which falls within the jurisdiction of Bhana Mari police station.

Police said a team was sent to the location and that the armed suspects opened fire when officers arrived. Both men were killed during the subsequent exchange of gunfire, according to the police version of events.

Authorities also linked the suspects to a recent robbery involving a gold trader on Civil Quarters Road. The report contains differing figures for the amount allegedly stolen: it initially cites more than Rs15 million, while subsequently stating Rs17.8 million was taken. This discrepancy has not been independently resolved.

Police said officers recovered Rs6.8 million in cash, a Kalashnikov, a pistol, a motorcycle and a bag from the suspects.

Cases linked to the men had been registered at several police stations, including Bhana Mari, Chamkani, Pahari Pura, Sarband and Agha Mir Jani Shah, according to officials. Police said more than six cases had been registered against them at Chamkani police station alone.

Authorities said the investigation and operation were continuing, with police searching for seven other alleged accomplices connected to the gang.

The circumstances of the encounter and the allegations against the deceased are based on the police account reported by the Express Tribune; no independent investigative findings confirming the circumstances were available in the material reviewed.
