Choreographer Bosco Martis recalls that Katrina Kaif struggled with dancing early in her career before “Sheila Ki Jawani” became a major turning point.
MUMBAI – Web Desk: Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif faced significant difficulties with dancing during the early stages of her career, according to choreographer Bosco Martis.
Bosco and his choreography partner Caesar recently appeared in an interview with filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, where they discussed their careers, choreography and their experience of working with Khan.
During the conversation, Farah Khan recalled choreographing “Sheila Ki Jawani”, describing it as one of the least expensive song productions she had worked on.
‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ became a turning point
Farah said the song was filmed with just 10 male dancers alongside Katrina Kaif.
Bosco described “Sheila Ki Jawani” as a game changer for Katrina’s career. Farah agreed, while recalling that at the time they had not realised how capable Katrina could become as a dancer.
The song, from the 2010 Bollywood film Tees Maar Khan, went on to become closely associated with Katrina Kaif and remains one of her most recognised dance performances.
Katrina was told she was ‘zero’ at dance
Bosco also recalled Katrina’s struggles during the early part of her career.
According to the choreographer, Katrina had faced humiliation from another choreographer, who allegedly told her that she was “zero” when it came to dancing and should quit.
The revelation highlights how different Katrina’s early dance abilities were perceived compared with her later career, when dance performances became an important part of her screen image.
From criticism to major dance performances
Katrina Kaif went on to establish herself as one of Bollywood’s prominent performers in dance-oriented songs.
Her performance in “Sheila Ki Jawani” became a major milestone, while subsequent appearances in popular dance numbers further strengthened her reputation as a Bollywood dance performer.
Bosco’s recollection offers a behind-the-scenes account of the challenges Katrina faced before reaching that stage of her career.
