Middle East Tensions Disrupt Pakistan Flight Operations, 54 Flights Cancelled
KARACHI, PAKISTAN — WEB DESK: Escalating tensions in the Middle East have caused fresh disruption to flight operations across Pakistan, with 54 domestic and international flights cancelled and several others delayed, according to airport flight information cited by Express Urdu.
The disruption has affected major airports including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, creating difficulties for passengers travelling on domestic routes as well as services connecting Pakistan with destinations in the Gulf and beyond.
The latest disruption follows several days of instability in international aviation schedules amid regional security concerns and separate problems affecting European air traffic.
On September 10, Express Urdu reported that 45 flights from Pakistan had been cancelled, with dozens more delayed by between three and five hours. Those cancellations affected services to the Middle East, Europe, the United States, Canada and other destinations.
At that stage, Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport accounted for 16 cancellations, Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport for 14, Islamabad International Airport for eight, Multan for four, Quetta for three and Sialkot for two, according to airport flight information sources.
Karachi Among Airports Hit by Disruption
The situation is particularly relevant for travellers using Karachi, one of Pakistan’s busiest international aviation hubs and a major gateway for flights to Gulf states.
Services travelling through or connecting with Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Jeddah, Riyadh and Türkiye have faced disruption during the wider aviation problems, with some flights experiencing delays of several hours.
Passengers travelling to the Middle East and Europe have been advised to check their latest flight status with their airline before leaving for the airport, as schedules can change at short notice.
The disruption does not mean that Pakistan’s entire international flight operation has been suspended. Rather, individual routes and services are being cancelled, delayed or adjusted depending on airline schedules and prevailing operational and airspace conditions.
Middle East Crisis Adds Pressure on Aviation
The aviation disruption comes against the backdrop of heightened instability across the Middle East, including continuing US-Iran tensions and conflict involving Yemen’s Houthis.
Regional developments have increased concerns around key transport corridors, while airlines operating between South Asia, the Gulf and Europe must continually assess airspace restrictions and security conditions.
Separate disruption to Britain’s air traffic control system has also affected international aviation this week. More than 2,000 flights were cancelled in the United Kingdom following a major air traffic control outage, adding further pressure to international schedules and connecting services.
For Pakistan-based passengers, the combination of regional tensions and international operational problems means schedules could remain volatile.
Travellers Urged to Check Flight Status
Passengers with upcoming departures should confirm their flight directly with the operating airline before travelling to the airport, particularly when flying through major Middle Eastern transit hubs.
Travellers with connecting flights should also verify whether onward services are operating, as a departure from Pakistan may remain scheduled even when a later connecting service has been altered.
The situation remains developing, and the number of cancelled or delayed flights could change as airlines revise their schedules in response to regional security and airspace conditions.
