WEB DESK: The federal government has declared Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a public holiday across Pakistan to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), falling on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.
The Cabinet Division issued the notification on Friday following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The holiday will be observed nationwide.
The Sindh government has also announced August 26 as a public holiday across the province.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi to be observed on August 26
The announcement follows the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee’s decision last week that the moon for Rabi-ul-Awwal had not been sighted.
Following the committee’s announcement, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH was set for Saturday, August 15, making the 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal fall on Wednesday, August 26.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed by Muslims to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The occasion is marked in Pakistan with prayers, religious gatherings, processions, charity and other activities.
Government issues official notification
The Cabinet Division’s notification formally confirms August 26 as a public holiday, adding the date to the federal government’s 2026 holiday schedule.
The holiday will provide citizens across the country with a day off to observe Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
The declaration also gives government departments, educational institutions and other organisations the official basis for observing the holiday according to their applicable rules.
With the announcement, August 26 will be a nationwide public holiday in Pakistan for Eid Milad-un-Nabi 2026.
