Sources say acid-related damage was also detected in the lungs, while police detained six more people in the Karachi case.
KARACHI, Pakistan – Web Desk: Evidence of acid has been found in the stomach of deceased businessman Mir Raza Ali, while severe acid-related damage was also detected in his lungs, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Sources said traces of acid were additionally found on Ali’s hands and feet. His shirt reportedly contained acid traces as well as sweat believed to belong to another person.
The findings emerged as investigators continued probing the circumstances surrounding Ali’s death in Karachi.
Police have sealed a guesthouse near the incident site after deeming it suspicious, according to sources. Six people working at the guesthouse have also been detained, taking the total number of people detained in connection with the case to 21.
Statements from those detained have been recorded as investigators seek to establish what happened to Ali before his death.
The latest developments came a day after Ali’s body was exhumed and reburied following a second post-mortem examination conducted by a medical board.
According to the medical findings cited by sources, Ali had sustained a gunshot wound from the rear. Marks of violence were also found on different parts of his body, while his ribs were fractured and multiple injuries were identified on his head and face.
Ali, an IBA graduate, was found dead in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area last month, a day after he went missing on July 28. His father subsequently alleged that his son had been murdered and rejected speculation that he had died by suicide.
Judicial probe deferred
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said the decision to establish a judicial commission to investigate the case had been deferred at the request of Ali’s parents.
Lanjar said the government had initially decided to establish the commission to ensure transparency but that the family expressed confidence in the newly formed investigation team and preferred that the police investigation continue.
The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, had earlier said the parents formally informed the Karachi mayor, Sindh home minister and additional inspector general that they did not believe a judicial commission was currently necessary.
Sharjeel Memon approaches NCCIA
Separately, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over what he described as false and malicious allegations circulating on social media linking him and his son, Rawal Memon, to Ali’s alleged murder.
A complaint was submitted to the NCCIA Karachi Zone on August 9, alleging that certain social media accounts were spreading fabricated claims and damaging the reputations of Memon and his son.
The allegations circulating online included claims about a guesthouse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and alleged links between the facility and the case. Memon and his son have denied the allegations.
